Roadshow
The National Aimhigher roadshow is a BIS (Department for Business, Innovation & Skills) initiative designed to promote the benefits and dispel the myths about Higher Education.
From September 2008, the roadshow has a modern new look. The roadshow has received a total facelift and has five brand new, high-tech units. As well as a plasma screen, notebook laptops and a DVD to watch, students will be able to interact more than ever during the roadshow sessions. Using the hand-held voting pads, students will now be able to answer questions and give their opinions about Higher Education at the touch of a button.
The roadshow is aimed at Year 9 pupils and Year 12 students in areas and communities with traditionally low levels of participation in Higher Education. The idea behind the roadshow is to take young people out of the classroom environment and inspire them with an informative, fast-paced presentation given by a recent graduate who has just experienced university first-hand.
Five vehicles visit schools and FE/sixth form colleges in Aimhigher areas across England. The roadshow sessions are flexible and can be organised around school and college timetables. All sessions can take a maximum of 18 students.
A recent graduate facilitates each session and inspires attendees using an interactive film, the latest computer technology and their own personal experiences of HE.
